The Burning Bush, it burned but was not consumed. It is a fitting portrayal of what happens when God fills us and permeates our whole being. We are totally engulfed by him from the inside out. The fire was still a fire not the appearance of fire, hence it burns. Burns us from the inside out. But we are not consumed by it. Instead with the fire we do something which is beyond what we think we are capable of. A speaking bush being just one of those. A place on earth being turned into Holy ground another.
Who am I to go the Pharaoh? Was Moses' question. He was a fugitive. But when the fire consumed, when God spoke he could go. God did not answer, telling Moses who he was and what capabilities he had. Which could very well have been the case. He was an Egyptian prince with possibly good education and leadership training. But God answered the question by saying "I will be with you." That is what enables Moses to go with authority. The promise is that they will serve/ worship God on that mountain. The promise hence lies in the future too.
The promise for liberation for the Israelites did not come alone. There was a promise that they would not come out empty handed. The reality or the created reality of the need for resources for human survival was not lost on God. His ideal and his direction comes with provision. But the Israelites did not have that provision till they moved out. Till they, based on what they saw of God in Egypt, and his dealing with the Pharaoh, decided that this God would provide for them even when they moved out to cross a vast desert.
